What is meeting settings in Microsoft Teams?
As per Microsoft, the definition is as “Meeting settings are used to control whether anonymous people can join Teams meetings, what is included in the meeting invitations, and if you want, you can enable Quality of Service (QoS) and set the ports for real-time traffic. These settings are used for all Teams meetings that people schedule in your organization.”
In short, using the meeting settings Microsoft Teams administrator enables how anonymous (outside organization) people can join Teams meetings and when they join the Teams meeting what are the features or options they can see – using the meeting settings these can be controlled.
How to manage meeting settings in Micorosft Teams?
Go to the Teams settings URL: https://admin.teams.microsoft.com/meetings/settings
Click on the “Meeting settings” from the “Meetings” section like below:

We can see the below options on the Microsoft Teams meeting settings configuration page:
- Participants
- Email invitation

If we enable this option, anonymous users can join a meeting.

Email invitation in Microsoft Teams
Using this option we can customize meeting invitations sent to people that can include your organization’s logo, specific URLs, and custom footers that can include statements for privacy or security and phone numbers for technical support.
We can set the below URLs and footer using the email invitation configuration section:
- Logo URL
- Legal URL
- Help URL
- Footer

Once we click on the “Preview Invite” button, we can see the email invite preview screen.
Note:

Network configuration in Microsoft Teams meeting settings
Using the network configuration we can set up how you want to handle Teams meetings in real-time media traffic (audio, video, and screen sharing) that flow across your network.
- Insert Quality of Service (QoS) markers for real-time media traffic
- Select a port range for each type of real-time media traffic
- Media traffic type configuration
Notes:
- Under the media traffic type, we can set Audio, Video, and Screen sharing ports.
- Audio Starting Port 50000, Ending Port 50019, Total Ports: 20
- Video Starting Port 50020, Ending Port 50039, Total Ports: 20
- Video Starting Port 50040, Ending Port 50059, Total Ports: 20
- In “insert Quality of Service (QoS) markers for real-time media traffic”, the default selection is off.
- In “select a port range for each type of real-time media traffic”, the default selection is specified port ranges.
- Once we change the selection to “Automatically use any available ports”, the media traffic type selection will be hidden.

Live events policies in Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams live events policies are used to turn on or off features, such as who can join a live event, if the transcription is provided for attendees, or if recording live events are available for people who schedule and hold live events. You can use the Global (Org-wide default) policy and customize it or create additional policies with different settings and assign them to people that hold live events in your organization.
