Create calendar view in SharePoint online – these days the use of modern experiences of SharePoint Online list or library has been phenomenally increased due to the uses of the cloud version of SharePoint (Office 365 – SharePoint Online). If we want to maintain the company’s holiday calendar or any events, we used to maintain this in the SharePoint Calendar type of list and then used to enter the event as an item to the calendar list.
Let’s think about we have a document library that store the invoice documents and we have the “Invoice Receive Date” and “Invoice Due Date” two DateTime columns as the document metadata, now how we can integrate these date with the actual document library metadata – this can be achieved through the calendar view – in fact, the presence of calendar view was there in SharePoint classic experience however, the calendar view creation was missing in the modern SharePoint Online list or library, in this tutorial, we will learn how we can create a calendar view in modern SharePoint Online list or library – this feature was part of Microsoft 365 roadmap October 2020.
How to create a calendar view in the modern SharePoint Online document library (calendar view in SharePoint online)?
For ease of understanding, first, let’s create two Date and Time columns in the default document library name “Invoice Receive Date” and “Invoice Due Date”
Now, go to the document library location.
Click on the view selection dropdown list (shown as 3).
Click on the create new view link.
On the next screen, we will land on the view creation page.
Enter the view name – any text we could enter here, for example, I have entered here – “Invoice Tracking Calendar View”.
From the “Show as” section, select “Calendar”, by default “List” will be selected.
Then select any date column from the “Start date on the calendar” and “End date on calendar” dropdown list.
From the visibility section, we can leave the default checkbox selection “Make this a public view”.
Note: Visibility as public means – “Public views can be visited by anyone with access to this list”.
If we click on the “more options” link, we will get the option to select “Title of items on the calendar”.
Finally, click on the “Create” button.
Then we can the calendar view is rendered in the list shown below – and also, we could see that the newly created calendar view (Invoice Tracking Calendar View) is listed in the view selection dropdown list.
How to create a calendar view in the modern SharePoint Online list?
Follow the same previous steps, and view creation in the document library – here is my test calendar view “My Test Calendar View” created in the “TestList”.
To see the configuration click on the “Edit current view” link from the view selection dropdown menu.
Notes:
- Either in the document library or list calendar view, we cannot modify the view name and visibility settings once we created the view.
- We can modify the calendar view metadata like “Start date on the calendar”, “End date on the calendar” and “Title of items on the calendar”
