Copilot Studio Agent Status: Microsoft has introduced a new Agent Status feature in Copilot Studio (Preview), making it easier for makers and administrators to monitor the health and readiness of their AI agents.

This new capability is available directly from the Agent Overview page and provides a quick visual indicator of the current operational state of an agent.

What is Agent Status in Copilot Studio?

The Agent Status feature helps you quickly understand whether your agent is functioning as expected or requires attention. Depending on the evaluation results and configuration, an agent can display one of the following statuses:

  • Ready โ€“ The agent is operating as expected.
  • Warning โ€“ The agent may require attention or further validation.
  • Blocked โ€“ A configuration issue or other problem is preventing the agent from operating correctly.

Instead of manually reviewing configurations, makers can now identify potential issues at a glance.

You can see the agent status section from your Copilot Studio agent overview menu.

Note:

  • This agent is currently in the Ready state. If it were in a Warning or Blocked state, you would see the appropriate action button to help resolve the issue and move the agent back to the Ready state.

Agent Evaluation in Copilot Studio

Along with Agent Status, Copilot Studio provides an Evaluate Agent option that helps test agent performance.

When you run an evaluation, Copilot Studio can automatically generate test questions based on the agentโ€™s knowledge sources, instructions, and configuration. Each generated question is evaluated against the agentโ€™s response and marked as Pass or Fail.

For example, if 10 test questions are generated and the agent successfully passes 8 of them, the evaluation score will be displayed as 80%.

This provides a quick way to validate agent quality before wider deployment.

Why This Update Matters

As organizations build more AI-powered copilots and agents, monitoring agent quality becomes increasingly important. The new Agent Status feature helps makers:

  • Quickly identify agent health issues
  • Validate agent performance using built-in evaluation
  • Improve confidence before publishing agents
  • Reduce manual testing efforts
  • Monitor agent readiness from a centralized view

Final Thoughts โ€“ Copilot Studio Agent Status

The new Agent Status feature is a welcome addition to Copilot Studio. By combining automated evaluation with clear health indicators, Microsoft is making it easier to build, test, and manage AI agents at scale.

If youโ€™re working with Microsoft Copilot Studio, itโ€™s worth exploring this preview feature and incorporating agent evaluations into your development and testing process.
