How to verify your office 365 tenant supports SharePoint Syntex?
In order to enable and configure SharePoint Syntex in your tenant, you must ensure your tenant supports the SharePoint Syntex add-on. In order to verify that letās follow the below steps:
Go to the purchase service from the Microsoft 365 Tenant (https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/Home#/catalog), then search with the āSharePoint Syntexā
We will get the āSharePoint (Plan 2) and SharePoint (Plan 1), or even separate āAdd-Ons(Get even more value from the subscriptions you already have.) section where we could see the āSharePoint Syntexā and āSharePoint Syntex Trialā details we could go with any of them.

Click on the āDetailsā link as shown in the picture either from SharePoint (Plan 2) or SharePoint (Plan 1).
On the next page, click on the āAdd-ons(2)ā tab.
And under the SharePoint Syntex Trial section click on the āDetailsā button link.

On the screen we could see the below message:
āThis per-user offer enables customers to get access to Advanced AI and machine teaching to amplify human expertise, automate content processing, and transform content into knowledge; and Content centers, digital image processing, form processing, document understanding, advanced taxonomy services, content connectors.ā
āYou are not eligible to acquire this product.ā

If you get the above message then we can say SharePoint Syntex is not yet available or is not supported in your tenant -however, adding this āSharePoint Syntexā add-on process is the same as below:
As a first step, we need to buy a subscription (or start a 30-day trial).
Buy a subscription (or start a 30-day trial) ā Microsoft SharePoint Syntex
To buy a SharePoint Syntex subscription we need to go to the SharePoint Syntex link. Or we can directly add this SharePoint Syntex add-in directly from your existing tenant, from the Purchase -> Purchase from Microsoft -> Search with āSharePoint Syntexā as shown above. Then we can add this from the SharePoint Syntex Trial link.

Note ā here for ease of understanding, I have chosen the dedicated separate SharePoint Syntex subscription link rather than getting this service from the existing tenant purchase service link, considering the new trial tenant setup.
Now, from the āSharePoint Syntexā subscription page, either we can buy the product or start with the free trial version. Here ā I recommend you to go with the 30 days free trial and explore it, then buy the subscription.
Here, I have chosen the āFree trialā. Once we click on the āFree trialā link button, we will land on the below page:
āThank you for choosing SharePoint Syntexā

In the āLetās set up your accountā section we can see the below message:
āYouāre currently signed in with Global-SharePoint2020@globalsharepoint2020.onmicrosoft.com Not you?
This account already exists with another Microsoft service. Continue to get this trial for your organization.ā
Note:
- Here as I have already logged into my trial office 365 tenant using my account Global-SharePoint2020@globalsharepoint2020.onmicrosoft.com, so it took it automatically, otherwise, we need to complete the sign-in process.
The rest of the configuration is self-explanatory, we just need to follow the continue button.
How to activate SharePoint Syntex in Office 365 tenants?
Once we are completed with the above subscription process, we need to activate the feature in Microsoft 365. In order to do this, we need to go to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (https://admin.microsoft.com/AdminPortal/), and click on the āSetupā link from the left side navigation panel, and scroll down to Organizational Knowledge.
Basically, activation of SharePoint Syntex involves three steps process:
- Automate content understanding
- Configure Form Processing
- Create a Content Center
Then we need to click on the āAutomate content understandingā
We will get a āwelcomeā screen here,
Automate content understanding- Microsoft SharePoint Syntex
As per Microsoft āAutomate content understandingā is:
āAutomatically find, classify, and extract the info to automate processes and make files easier to find. Users can create AI models to extract metadata, such as the names of the people or organizations, from files. Other models can recognize different types of documents, images, and scanned forms in SharePoint libraries.ā
Then click on the āGet startedā link.
Configure Form Processing ā Microsoft SharePoint Syntex
Next, we need to configure Form Processing. Form processing models can read, extract, and process data from semi-structured documents, PDFs, scans, or other images.
As per Microsoft āForm Processingā is:
āEnable your end-users to train a form processing model and apply it to a document library. The model can read, extract, and process data from the semi-structured documents, PDFs, scans, or other images.ā
Which SharePoint libraries should show the option to create a form processing model:
Here, we can select either āAll SharePoint librariesā, āOnly libraries in selected sitesā or āNo SharePoint librariesā.
Create a Content Center ā Microsoft SharePoint Syntex
As per Microsoft āContent Centerā is:
āThis SharePoint site is the default content center for your organization. Members of the site can build content understanding models for unstructured content, like letters and noticesā
Meaning ā the Content Center is a SharePoint site, members of this site can build content understanding models for unstructured content like letters(emails), notices, etc.
Creating a content center site is the same as creating another SharePoint Online site where we need to pass the Content Center Name as the site name and Content Center Address as the site URL (site internal name).
Once these steps are done, we can review and activate SharePoint Syntex.
The activation process takes a couple of minutes to complete, please do not close the window while it is processing.
Once it is done, we will get a successful activation message āĀ content understanding activated, and youāve completed the setup for content understanding.
Click on the āDoneā button.
To verify the content center site creation open the site in the browser and make sure it opens.
